Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy – Prolase Laser Clinic

What is PRP treatment?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, which is essentially blood that contains special proteins that support healing and cell growth. The process requires blood to be drawn from the patient. The blood is then put into a centrifuge which spins at high speeds, separating the blood components. Following this step, the blood is injected into the patient’s facial area or into their scalp. The purpose for PRP injection is to stimulate new and healthy cell growth. PRP, as it once was known to help athletes heal injuries, has now given patients the opportunity to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, sun damage or even dark eye circles. The treatment also provides tighter skin, along with a glowing complexion.

PRP Facial

A very common use of PRP is for facials, and one of the most effective forms is combining the procedure with another known as micro-needling. Micro-needling is collagen induction therapy, and adds extra effects against aging and wrinkles when carried out with PRP. Since PRP is already meant to produce more collagen and provide more nutrients to the skin’s cells, including the natural collagen will help create more successful results. One reason why many combine the two procedures is to create tighter skin and to also speed the healing process.

The benefits to this facial spans out from decreasing hyper pigmentation and pore size to improving the overall texture of one’s skin. Those who have experienced this procedure have reported back positive results, including celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Angelina Jolie, who are famous for their flawless and youthful skin.

PRP Scalp Therapy

PRP Scalp therapy is another common form of PRP injections that many have found to be beneficial. The process for the procedure is similar to that of the facial, where blood is taken from the patient, and then spun rapidly in a centrifuge to remove the plasma from the red blood cells. However, in this particular procedure, the blood is injected into the scalp in order to stimulate hair growth. The injections also increase blood supply to the hair follicle and the thickness of the hair shaft.
